Valentines Day - The Worst Day of the Year

Valentines day was a couple days ago , I thought I would give my thoughts about the day....

For many many people around the world , Valentines day is the worst day of the year. For single people , it is a ridiculous reminder that they are single and alone. Lots of people are depressed on this day more so because they are sorta looked down upon because they don't have a "Valentine", not by anyone else but by themselves.

St Valentine Kneeling
I am very much single and I am fine with that. The day does not depress me in the slightest. However , I have a big problem with this holiday and its commercialization. The reason we celebrate this day is because of St
Valentine who used to marry soldiers in secret when it was not allowed to do so by the law. The man was eventually found out and was beaten and executed because of this.

I strongly believe that when someone dies for cause we should remember that man and the legacy he left behind. Sure we have a St Valentines day, but how many people actually remember the sacrifice this man made for others all those years ago?

There is ALOT of controversy behind this topic of discussion, and no matter what anyone tells me , i still believe it wrong to ignore the sacrifices of the people that came before us, especially when they gave their lives for a cause greater than themselves.

What do you think ?

  1. Well do you not think that by celebrating love, we're doing just that....comenmorating a fallen hero. St Valentine did not marry couples for fame. He did so for love. And by celebrating love in whichever form we are keeping alive what St Valentine stood for. Yes it's commercialised, yes corporates are making profits (blah blah) but that's the world we live in.

Complaining about it won't change it. Many before you have done so and many after you will do the same.

Just embrace the day. Celebrate love in whatever form, be happy and move on.

    1. I suppose you could look at it from that perspective, i.e. he didnt die in vain. I just find it really sad in all that love that is spread on the day , the man , himself is not remembered. I believe that honor should be given where honor is due. But hey , each to our own right ?

    2. Considering the day itself is named after him, I think he's given enough due.

If you feel so strongly, do something next year that you feel is worthy of such a great man.

And i will gladly listen but also continue with my commercialised way of buying gifts for friends and the few loved ones I hold dear to me.

Bur yes, each to their own and to thy own self be true.

      More xoxo
